THE VOLKSFEST

The "Nürnberger Volksfest" is an event everyone in Nuremberg knows. It takes place two times a year. One time in spring and the other one in autumn. The "Nürnberger Volksfest" stays for 2 weeks each time it's opend. It takes place at the "Volksfestplatz" Nuremberg, near the "dutzendteich". The "Volksfestplatz" is 100.000 squaremeters big. The first Volksfest was in autumn 1826 and was there to honor the bavarian King Ludwig 1st. But there's no historical meaning to it nowdays. It is a place to have fun at with friends or family. There are round about 23 main attractions like free fall towers, roller coasters and big wheels. And if u think you are not brave enough for these attractions, it's no problem. You can also just chill in one of the restaurants. Most of them are very Bavarian. It's recommended to go there at evening. All those funky lights, the music and the smell of cinnamon and sugar will put you in a good mood. And if you have the time, there are huge Fireworks you can watch there on seperate days. You may ask now, why it only stays for 2 weeks and closes afterwards for half a year. It is like this because every attraction and every restaurant at the festival is portable. They come with big Trucks. All the attractions get built up 2 weeks before the event starts, and the owners of the attractions sleep in a caravan until the event is over. It is a must to go there once if u have the luck of beeing in Nuremberg at the right time.
