THE NUREMBERG ZOO

The Nuremberg Zoo was opend in Mai 1939 and is 650.000squaremeters big. 1.2million million people visited the Zoo in 2018. The Zoo itself is located in a part of the big forest called "Lorenzer Reichswald". It is not the first zoo nuremberg had. The first one which was located at the "Dutzendteich", but had to be closed because the space it was built on was needed for other projects. There are over 300 different species in the new Zoo, which some of are threatened with extinction. Out of the 300 species, 80 are mammals and 80 are birds. To keep them in the zoo with good conditions, they had to limit the amount of the animals. The zoo helps to maintain the variety of animals in the world, by providing their animals. The Nuremberg zoo helps smaller organisations which stand for protection of the animals. The zoo is in possession of big and small mammals, predators, rodents, marsupials, dolphins and manatees, birds, fish and reptiles. THE VOLKSFEST The "Nürnberger Volksfest" is an event everyone in Nuremberg knows. It takes place two times a year. One time in spring and the other one in autumn. THE BEAUTIFUL FOUNTAIN Nuremberg's Beautiful Fountain is one of the most popular sights of Nuremberg. It represents the historical aspect of Nuremberg. It is 19m tall and looks like a church spire with gothic details. It isn't quite clear who has built it. Most say it was built by Heinrich Beheim in the period of 1385-1396. Others say it was built by Georg Rupprecht and Fritz Rupprecht in cooperation with Sebald Schonhofer. Fact is that the Beautiful Fountain had to be restored a lot of times. The Beautiful Fountain is very important to the people of Nuremberg. That's why it was protected by a concrete wall in WW2. According to the legend, it gives you luck spinning on a ring at the outer fence. But be careful, you have to spin the black ring for luck. The golden one is only there to trick people.
